After the kingdom of Alba Longa was entrusted again to Numitor, a longing for something new seized Romulus and Remus, therefore they had founded a city in these places where they were exposed and raised. Then Romulus, according to plan, sent 100 Fathers, whom he had chosen as senators, around neighboring nations as ambassadors, who were seeking alliance and marriage for the new population. However the ambassadors were heard kindly nowhere, for the neighbors were fearing a new city in the midst of themselves and descendents. They ask, “Why will you not also open an asylum for women For thus finally you will have an equal marriage for you all.”
After the sad news there had come back again, angry Romulus was thinking with himself, “Nevertheless, we will find foreign women as spouse by force,” and therefore he seized a plan, which he called the neighboring Sabines to Consualia, where he was offering games to equestrian Neptune, to whom the name Consus was also given. The Consus was a divinity of a river which was buried underground, where swift horses were running in contest. Then when the guests had arrived there and they had sat themselves on grass on each of the two mountains: Palatine and Aventine, from which they were looking at the valley, in which after several generations, the Circus was built. All the Romans, who, as Romulus had instructed, had hidden weapons in their clothing, at a certain signal, they immediately seized the Sabin virgins, each one as a spouse for themselves.
